Karen Arthur is an American director, actress, and producer. She is best known for her work on the television series Cagney & Lacey, for which she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series in 1984. She has also directed episodes of The Golden Girls, The Wonder Years, and The Cosby Show. Arthur was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and attended the University of Nebraska, where she studied theater. She began her career as an actress, appearing in the films The Swimmer (1968) and The Reivers (1969). She then moved into directing, helming episodes of the television series The Rockford Files, The Bionic Woman, and The Incredible Hulk. In 1984, Arthur won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series for her work on Cagney & Lacey. She has since directed episodes of The Golden Girls, The Wonder Years, and The Cosby Show. She has also directed the films The Mafu Cage (1978) and The Initiation (1984). Arthur is married to actor and director Robert Arthur, with whom she has two children. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
