Ken Duberstein is an American political consultant and lobbyist who served as the White House Chief of Staff under President Ronald Reagan from 1988 to 1989. He was born on April 21, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York. Duberstein attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965. He then attended Georgetown University Law Center, where he earned a Juris Doctor degree in 1968. Duberstein began his career in politics in 1969, when he joined the staff of Senator Jacob Javits of New York. He then served as the staff director of the Senate Finance Committee from 1975 to 1977. In 1977, he joined the staff of President Jimmy Carter, serving as the Deputy Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs. In 1981, Duberstein joined the Reagan administration, serving as the Deputy Under Secretary of Transportation. In 1983, he was appointed the Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs. In 1988, he was appointed the White House Chief of Staff, a position he held until 1989. Since leaving the White House, Duberstein has served as a lobbyist and consultant. He is the chairman and CEO of The Duberstein Group, a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm. He is also a director of several companies, including ConocoPhillips, The Boeing Company, and The Home Depot. Duberstein is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Academy of Diplomacy. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute.
