He also wrote and produced the television movie The Homecoming: A Christmas Story, which served as the pilot for The Waltons. Lucas was born in Kenton County, Kentucky, and attended the University of Kentucky. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles and began working in television. He wrote for several shows, including The Virginian, The Big Valley, and The Mod Squad. In 1972, Lucas was hired to write and produce The Waltons. He wrote and produced the show for nine seasons, and wrote the television movie The Homecoming: A Christmas Story, which served as the pilot for the series. Lucas has also written and produced several other television movies, including The Thanksgiving Promise, The Easter Promise, and The Christmas Gift. He has also written several books, including The Homecoming: A Christmas Story, The Easter Promise, and The Christmas Gift. Lucas is currently retired and living in Los Angeles. He is 88 years old.
