In 2006, Kevin was elated to meet actor/entertainer Wonderful Smith, one of Hattie McDaniel's best friends, at the unveiling of the late Ms. McDaniel's official U.S. postage stamp at an outdoor ceremony at the Academy's Margaret Herrick Library (Beverly Hills, CA).

1971

In 1971, Kevin and his family were about to move to Fort Worth, Texas due to the separation of his parents. His neighbors, Joan and Walter Mondale, decided to give Kevin their cat (Patches) which he had grown very fond of during their 3-year stay in Washington DC. "Patches" Mondale would live the rest of her life as a Texan and Walter Mondale would later become Vice-President of the United States.

1952

In 2018, he was briefly a documentary curator for the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF). MPTF was formerly know as the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital. Hattie McDaniel and Sam McDaniel, Kevin's great-grandaunt and great-granduncle, both passed away at the hospital there in Woodland Hills. Hattie died of breast cancer on October 26, 1952 and Sam of throat cancer on September 24, 1962.
