Kim Bridgford is an American poet, fiction writer, critic, and professor. She was born in 1959 in Moline, Illinois. She earned her B.A. from Augustana College in 1981 and her M.F.A. from the University of Iowa in 1984. She is currently a professor of English at the University of West Florida. Bridgford is the author of six collections of poetry, including The Second Blush (University of Akron Press, 2011), which won the Akron Poetry Prize, and The Book of Knowledge (University of Akron Press, 2017). She has also published two collections of short fiction, The Book of Knowledge and Other Stories (University of Akron Press, 2018) and The Book of Knowledge and Other Stories II (University of Akron Press, 2020). Bridgford is the editor of the literary journal The Florida Review and the author of several books of literary criticism, including The Poetry of Men’s Lives: An International Anthology (University of Georgia Press, 2004). She is also the editor of the anthology The Best of the Florida Review (University of Florida Press, 2011). Bridgford has received numerous awards and honors for her work, including the Florida Book Award, the Florida Humanities Council Award, and the Florida Arts Council Fellowship. Kim Bridgford is an award-winning poet, editor, college professor, fiction writer, and critic. In her poetry, she writes primarily in traditional forms, of which the sonnet is her form of choice. She is the director of Poetry by the Sea: A Global Conference, established in 2014 and first held in May 2015. She directed the West Chester University Poetry Conference from 2010 through 2014.

2010

In August 2010, she and her family moved to Pennsylvania where Bridgford joined the West Chester University faculty and served as director of the West Chester University Poetry Center.

2007

Bridgford was the 2007 Touring Poet for the Connecticut Poetry Circuit. That year, her book In the Extreme: Sonnets about World Records received the 2007 Donald Justice Poetry Award.

1994

In 1994, Bridgford was named Connecticut Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. In 1999, she was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in poetry. In 2003, she received a poetry fellowship from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.

1989

Bridgford started teaching at Fairfield University in Connecticut in 1989. In 1994, she moved to Wallingford, Connecticut with her husband Peter Duval, an award-winning author of fiction. In 1996, their son, Nick, was born.
