Kip Kinkel is an American mass murderer who killed his parents and two students at Thurston High School in Springfield, Oregon, on May 21, 1998. He was sentenced to 111 years in prison without the possibility of parole. Kip was born in Eugene, Oregon, to Faith and William Kinkel. He was an only child and was raised in a strict religious household. He was an honor student and was active in his church youth group. At the age of 15, Kip began to show signs of mental illness. He was diagnosed with depression and was prescribed Prozac. He was also known to be a loner and was often bullied at school. On May 21, 1998, Kip shot and killed his parents and then went to Thurston High School, where he opened fire on students in the cafeteria, killing two and wounding 25 others. He was arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated murder, 25 counts of attempted murder, and one count of illegal possession of a firearm. Kip was found guilty on all counts and was sentenced to 111 years in prison without the possibility of parole. He is currently incarcerated at the Oregon State Penitentiary.
