In May 2022 Kindiki was among the top candidates competing to be William Ruto's running mates. Incumbent Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua defeated him, and was unveiled as Ruto's running mate.

2020

He was elected in 2013 as the Senator for Tharaka-Nithi County, he clinched the seat on his first attempt at elective politics. He was re-elected in the subsequent General Election of 2017He served as the Majority Leader in the Senate during the 2013–2017 term and served as the Deputy Speaker of the Kenya Senate from August 2017 to 22 May 2020 when he was de-whipped from the position by the Jubilee Party.

2013

He served as Tharaka-Nithi County's senator in the 2013 Kenyan General election. He was successful in taking the seat in his maiden foray into electoral politics. Afterward, he was chosen to serve as the Senate's first majority leader, a position he held up until he was chosen to serve as deputy speaker following the 2017 midterm elections. Wiliam Ruto was removed from office in 2020 following a disagreement between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Kenyan deputy.

Kindiki was born and raised in Tharaka in Tharaka-Nithi County. He worked as a lecturer at Moi and Nairobi University before entering politics. In 1999, he began working as a law lecturer at Moi University. He started working at the University of Nairobi in 2004 and remained there until 2005, when he returned to Moi to lead the Public Law department.

1998

In 1998, he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from the Moi University. The year 2000 he obtained a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Human Rights Law and Democracy from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He also attended the Advocates' Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies, (Kenya School of Law, 2001) is a requirement in Kenya's Legal Education for one to qualify as an advocate after completing a bachelor's degree in law. In 2002 he graduated with a PhD in International Law from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
