Upon her father's death, she inherited his title - Viscount Rhondda, of Llanwern, County Monmouth - and his properties, being his only child. She tried to take his seat in the House of Lords, citing the Sex Disqualification Removal Act of 1919, which allowed women to exercise "any public office", but was denied. Among her supporters were Lord Astor, whose wife, Nancy Astor, was the first woman to take a seat in the House of Commons. The Peerage Act of 1963 allowed hereditary peeresses to enter the Lords.
