Lamine Bechichi is a 93-year-old Algerian politician who served as the Prime Minister of Algeria from 1979 to 1984. He was born in 1927 in the city of Oran, Algeria. Bechichi studied law at the University of Algiers and was a professor of law at the University of Oran. He was a member of the National Liberation Front (FLN) and was elected to the National Assembly in 1962. He was appointed Minister of Justice in 1965 and Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1967. In 1979, Bechichi was appointed Prime Minister of Algeria and served in that position until 1984. During his tenure, he was responsible for the implementation of economic reforms and the liberalization of the Algerian economy. He also oversaw the establishment of the Algerian National Bank and the privatization of several state-owned companies. Bechichi is currently a member of the Algerian Senate and is a member of the National Council of the FLN. He is also a member of the International Court of Justice. Bechichi has been married twice and has four children. He is currently living in Algiers, Algeria.
