Larry Troutman was an American musician, singer, songwriter, and producer. He was the founder of the funk band Zapp, and was the lead vocalist and guitarist of the group. Troutman is best known for his use of the talk box, a device that allows the user to modify the sound of their voice by manipulating the sound waves with their mouth. Troutman was born in Hamilton, Ohio, and began playing music at an early age. He was a self-taught musician, and began playing the guitar and bass at the age of 12. He formed Zapp in 1977, and the group released their debut album, Zapp, in 1980. The album was a success, and spawned the hit single "More Bounce to the Ounce". Troutman and Zapp released several more albums throughout the 1980s, and Troutman also released several solo albums. Troutman was tragically killed in 1999, when he was shot by his brother, Roger Troutman. Larry Troutman's net worth at the time of his death was estimated to be around $2 million.
