Leandro Díaz (composer) is a Colombian composer, arranger, and conductor. He is best known for his work in the genres of vallenato, cumbia, and salsa. He has composed over 500 songs, including hits such as "La Piragua", "La Colegiala", and "La Pollera Colora". Díaz was born in Barrancas, La Guajira, Colombia, on 20 February 1928. He began his musical career at the age of 12, playing the accordion and performing in local festivals. He later moved to Barranquilla, where he joined the orchestra of the renowned composer and arranger, Rafael Escalona. In the 1950s, Díaz began to compose his own music, and in the 1960s he formed his own orchestra, with which he toured throughout Colombia and Latin America. He has composed over 500 songs, including hits such as "La Piragua", "La Colegiala", and "La Pollera Colora". Díaz has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the National Music Award from the Colombian Ministry of Culture in 2003, and the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.
