Leif Mæhle is a Norwegian researcher and professor emeritus at the University of Bergen. He is known for his research in the fields of geology, geophysics, and geochemistry. He has published more than 200 scientific papers and books. Mæhle was born in Sunndal, Norway, on 17 May 1927. He studied geology at the University of Oslo, graduating in 1952. He then went on to pursue a PhD in geology at the University of Bergen, which he completed in 1958. Mæhle has held various positions at the University of Bergen, including professor of geology, professor of geophysics, and professor of geochemistry. He has also held visiting positions at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Cambridge. Mæhle has received numerous awards and honors for his research, including the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters' Gunnerus Medal in 2000, the Geological Society of Norway's Gold Medal in 2002, and the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute's Gold Medal in 2004. Mæhle is married and has two children. He currently resides in Bergen, Norway.
