Leonard Nimoy was an American actor, film director, poet, singer, and photographer. He was best known for his portrayal of the half-Vulcan, half-human Spock in the original Star Trek television series (1966–1969) and in multiple film, television, and video game sequels. Nimoy was born and raised in the West End of Boston, Massachusetts, to Ukrainian Jewish immigrants. He began acting at the age of 8 and later attended Boston College and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Nimoy's career spanned more than 60 years, and he appeared in more than 50 films and television shows. He also wrote two autobiographies, I Am Not Spock (1975) and I Am Spock (1995). Nimoy was married twice, first to actress Sandra Zober from 1954 to 1987, and then to actress Susan Bay from 1989 until his death in 2015. He had two children, Adam and Julie. Nimoy was an active philanthropist, donating to numerous charities and organizations. He was also a strong advocate for space exploration and was a member of the Planetary Society. Nimoy died on February 27, 2015, at the age of 83. At the time of his death, his net worth was estimated to be around $45 million.
