Lionginas Šepetys was a Lithuanian politician and diplomat who served as the Prime Minister of Lithuania from 1990 to 1991. He was born in Kazliškiai, Ukmergė District, Lithuania on 23 November 1927. He studied at the University of Vilnius and graduated with a degree in law in 1952. After graduation, he worked as a lawyer in Vilnius. In the late 1950s, he was appointed to the Lithuanian Supreme Court. In 1990, he was appointed Prime Minister of Lithuania and served until 1991. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the country's transition to a market economy and the establishment of diplomatic relations with other countries. After leaving office, he served as Lithuania's ambassador to the United States from 1991 to 1995. He also served as a member of the Lithuanian Parliament from 1996 to 2000. Lionginas Šepetys passed away on 28 April 2021 at the age of 93. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and four grandchildren.
