Lisa Ben (Edythe D. Eyde) was an American composer and sound engineer. She was born in San Francisco, California, on November 7, 1921. She was the first openly lesbian musician in the United States. Ben was a pioneer in the field of sound engineering, and was the first woman to own and operate a recording studio in the United States. She was also the first woman to compose and arrange music for a major motion picture. Ben was a prolific composer, writing over 200 songs in her lifetime. She wrote music for films, television, and radio, as well as for musical theater. She also wrote music for commercials and jingles. Ben was an advocate for LGBT rights, and was a founding member of the Mattachine Society, one of the first LGBT rights organizations in the United States. Ben passed away on April 28, 2020, at the age of 98. She was survived by her partner of over 50 years, Mary Ann.
