Lucie Aubrac was a French writer, costume designer, and Resistance fighter during World War II. She was born in Paris on 29 June 1912 to a Jewish family. She studied at the Sorbonne and worked as a teacher before joining the Resistance in 1940. She was arrested in 1943 and sentenced to death, but was released after her husband, Raymond Aubrac, organized a daring rescue mission. After the war, Lucie Aubrac wrote several books about her experiences in the Resistance, including her memoirs, Outwitting the Gestapo. She also wrote several novels and plays, and worked as a costume designer for films. She was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1945 and the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor in 1995. She died in 2007 at the age of 94.
