Lucien Barbarin is an American jazz trombonist, vocalist, and bandleader. He is best known for his work with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, with whom he has performed since the early 1980s. He has also performed with many other jazz and blues musicians, including Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr., and Dr. John. Barbarin was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and began playing trombone at the age of nine. He attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, where he studied with jazz greats such as Ellis Marsalis and Alvin Batiste. He went on to study at the University of New Orleans, where he earned a degree in music. Barbarin has released several albums as a leader, including Lucien Barbarin and Friends (1995), Lucien Barbarin and the New Orleans Jazz Band (1998), and Lucien Barbarin and the Jazz Tradition (2002). He has also appeared on numerous recordings with other artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr., and Dr. John. Barbarin has performed at many of the world's most prestigious jazz festivals, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
