Luis Peña Ganchegui is a Spanish architect who was born on 29 March, 1926 in San Sebastián, Spain. He is best known for his modernist designs, which are characterized by their use of simple geometric forms and clean lines. He has designed numerous buildings in Spain, including the headquarters of the Spanish National Bank in Madrid, the Spanish Pavilion at the 1964 New York World's Fair, and the Spanish Pavilion at the 1967 Montreal World's Fair. Peña Ganchegui studied architecture at the University of Madrid, graduating in 1951. He then worked for several years in the office of the renowned Spanish architect, José María de Churriguera. In 1956, he opened his own office in Madrid, where he has since designed numerous buildings, including the headquarters of the Spanish National Bank in Madrid, the Spanish Pavilion at the 1964 New York World's Fair, and the Spanish Pavilion at the 1967 Montreal World's Fair. Peña Ganchegui has been awarded numerous honors for his work, including the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts from the Spanish government in 1984, and the Gold Medal of Merit in Architecture from the Spanish government in 1988.
