Lukas Vischer (theologian) was a Swiss theologian and professor of systematic theology at the University of Basel. He was born on 23 November 1926 in Basel, Switzerland. He studied theology at the University of Basel and received his doctorate in 1952. He was a professor of systematic theology at the University of Basel from 1956 to 1991. He was also a visiting professor at the University of Tübingen, the University of Heidelberg, and the University of Chicago. Vischer was a member of the Swiss Reformed Church and was a leader in the ecumenical movement. He was a member of the World Council of Churches and the World Alliance of Reformed Churches. He was also a member of the International Theological Commission of the Roman Catholic Church. Vischer wrote numerous books and articles on theology, including Theology of the Reformation (1962), Theology of the Church (1966), and Theology of the World (1970). He was awarded the Theodor Heuss Prize in 1975. Lukas Vischer (theologian) died on 28 April 2009 in Basel, Switzerland at the age of 82.
