In Stockholm, just days before the city hosted the 2016 contest, she took part in a special meet and greet event for fans and press, where she shared her memories in a variety of languages -she was fluent in at least six-.
There were rumors of Assia representing San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest, however it was announced on 30 January 2013 that Valentina Monetta would represent San Marino.
In 2012, Assia again entered the Swiss national selection Die grosse Entscheidungs Show to represent Switzerland in Malmö at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with the song "All In Your Head" featuring the hip-hop band New Jack.
In September 2011, Assia entered her song "C'était ma vie" written by Ralph Siegel and Jean Paul Cara into the Swiss national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The song, however, only came eighth in a closely fought national selection. She attended the event in Baku as a guest of honour.
In 2005, she performed during Congratulations, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest and in 2008 she started the voting in Belgrade.
In 2003, she addressed millions of viewers via a satellite link from Cyprus, wishing the contestants the best of luck ahead of the Grand Final in Riga. Being asked by presenter Marie N., who also won the contest the year before, how she looked back at the 1956 contest, she spoke the legendary words: "It was fun - I won!".
Lys Assia remained a loyal supporter of the Eurovision Song Contest, being a guest of honour in many occasions, like in Gothenburg in 1985 when Eurovision was celebrating its 30th edition.
Assia married Johann Heinrich Kunz in 1957 in Zürich. Kunz died however within one year.
She was an actress, known for Oberstadtgass (1956), Palace Hotel (1952) and Die Beine von Dolores (1957). She was married to Oscar Pedersen and Johann Heinrich Kunz.
In the late 1950s, she became one of the most successful singers in the German speaking countries. Her biggest hits were "O mein Papa", "Mi casa su casa" and "Wenn die Glocken hell erklingen".
She began her stage career as a dancer, but changed to singing in 1940, after successfully standing in for a female singer.
