Lyuben Berov was a Bulgarian politician who served as the Prime Minister of Bulgaria from 1994 to 1995. He was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, on 6 October 1925. He studied law at Sofia University and graduated in 1950. Berov began his political career in the Bulgarian Communist Party, and was elected to the National Assembly in 1971. He served as Minister of Justice from 1971 to 1974, and as Minister of Interior from 1974 to 1989. In 1989, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. In 1994, Berov was appointed Prime Minister of Bulgaria, and served until 1995. During his tenure, he implemented a number of economic reforms, including the privatization of state-owned enterprises. He also oversaw the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, which ended the Bosnian War. Berov retired from politics in 1997, and died in Sofia on 15 April 2021, at the age of 95. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters. At the time of his death, Berov had an estimated net worth of $2 million. He earned most of his wealth through his political career, and also through investments in real estate and other businesses.
