M. K. Stalin is the current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) political party. He is the son of the late DMK leader M. Karunanidhi and the younger brother of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. K. Alagiri.
Stalin was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, on 1 March 1953. He completed his schooling from the Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School and graduated from the Madras University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Stalin began his political career in the early 1980s, when he was appointed as the Youth Wing Secretary of the DMK. He was later appointed as the Deputy General Secretary of the party in 1989. In 1996, he was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Thousand Lights constituency. He was re-elected in the 2001 and 2006 elections.
In 2009, Stalin was appointed as the Treasurer of the DMK and in 2010, he was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. In 2011, he was appointed as the Working President of the DMK. In 2016, he was elected as the President of the DMK.
Stalin is married to Durga Stalin and has two sons, Udhayanidhi Stalin and Dayanidhi Stalin. He is estimated to have a net worth of around $2 million.

M.K. Stalin formed the Secular Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu under United Progressive Alliance in center level and led the alliance in 2019 general election.

Stalin contests the Assembly polls unsuccessfully from Thousand Lights constituency in Chennai. in 1989 Stalin contests Assembly polls from Thousand Lights Constituency again, but wins this time. But the DMK government gets dismissed in 1990 before completing its full five-year term. He contests for the third time from the same Assembly constituency, but loses to the AIADMK under Jayalalithaa. Again in 1996 Stalin wins election as an MLA from the Thousand Lights constituency.
