In the 1970s, Ashforth began appearing in films, including The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, The Stepford Wives, and The Warriors. He also appeared in the television series Kojak, The Rockford Files, and The Equalizer. In the 1980s, Ashforth continued to appear in films, including The Verdict (1982), The Cotton Club (1984), and The Money Pit (1986). He also appeared in the television series Miami Vice and Law & Order. In the 1990s, Ashforth appeared in the films The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990), The Fisher King (1991), and The Juror (1996). He also appeared in the television series NYPD Blue and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Ashforth's most recent film appearances include The Thomas Crown Affair (1999), The Stepford Wives (2004), and The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009).
