Darwich wrote extensively about the Palestinian struggle for freedom and self-determination. His works include collections of poetry, essays, and plays. He was also a vocal advocate for the Palestinian cause, speaking out against the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Darwich died in 2008 at the age of 67. He was buried in Ramallah, Palestine.
