Malcolm Travis is an American musician and record producer. He is best known as the drummer for the alternative rock band The Pixies. He has also worked with a variety of other artists, including The Breeders, Throwing Muses, and Frank Black. Travis was born in Niskayuna, New York, and grew up in nearby Schenectady. He attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he studied music and art. After college, he moved to Boston and began playing in local bands. In 1986, Travis joined The Pixies, replacing original drummer David Lovering. He played on the band's first two albums, Come On Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa. He also contributed to the band's third album, Doolittle, and the EP, Bossanova. In 1989, Travis left The Pixies and formed the band Throwing Muses with Kristin Hersh. The band released several albums, including Hunkpapa and The Real Ramona. In the 1990s, Travis worked as a producer and engineer for a variety of artists, including Frank Black, The Breeders, and The Lemonheads. He also played drums on Frank Black's solo albums, Frank Black and Teenager of the Year. In the 2000s, Travis reunited with The Pixies for a series of reunion tours.
