Manny Albam was a jazz composer, arranger, and bandleader. He was born in Samana, Dominican Republic, and moved to New York City in 1940. He studied at the Juilliard School of Music and then worked as a freelance arranger for Benny Goodman, Count Basie, and other big bands. He also wrote arrangements for singers such as Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. In the 1950s, Albam formed his own big band and recorded several albums. He also wrote music for television and film, including the theme song for the television show "The Untouchables." He was nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on the show. Albam also wrote several books on jazz arranging and composition, including "The Jazz Workshop" and "The Jazz Arranging and Composing." He was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1995. He died in 2001 at the age of 79.
