He began his career with the youth team of Paraná Clube in 1998 and made his professional debut in 2001. Bonan has since gone on to make over 200 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals in the process. He has also represented Brazil at the Under-20 level, and was part of the squad that won the South American Under-20 Championship in 2001. Bonan has also had spells with other Brazilian clubs, including Atlético Paranaense, Coritiba, and São Paulo. He has also had a brief stint in the United States, playing for the New York Red Bulls in 2008. In 2010, he left for Campeonato Paulista Série A2 side São Bernardo FC. He was the first choice keeper ahead Anderson. He played 18 out of 19 group stage matches, but lost the starting place to Anderson in playoffs, only played the first 2 matches out of 6 matches.
