Maria Fekter is an Austrian politician who served as the Minister of Finance from 2008 to 2013. She was born on 1 February 1956 in Attnang-Puchheim, Austria. She is currently 68 years old. Fekter studied law at the University of Vienna and graduated in 1979. She then worked as a lawyer in Vienna until she was elected to the Austrian Parliament in 1990. She was re-elected in 1994, 1999, and 2006. In 2008, Fekter was appointed Minister of Finance in the government of Chancellor Werner Faymann. She held this position until 2013. During her tenure, she was responsible for introducing a number of reforms, including the introduction of a flat tax rate and the abolition of the wealth tax.
