Marion Kyle Sherman was born on 17 October, 1925 in Puyallup, Washington, U.S. She is a politician and served as a member of the Washington House of Representatives from the 25th Legislative District from 1975 to 1983. She was the first woman to serve as the Speaker Pro Tempore of the House. Sherman attended the University of Washington and graduated with a degree in political science. She then attended the University of Puget Sound Law School and graduated in 1951. She was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1951 and practiced law in Tacoma. Sherman was a member of the Washington State Democratic Central Committee from 1972 to 1975. She was elected to the Washington House of Representatives in 1975 and served until 1983. She was the first woman to serve as the Speaker Pro Tempore of the House. Sherman was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1976 and 1980. She was a member of the Washington State Board of Education from 1983 to 1991. She was also a member of the Tacoma City Council from 1991 to 1995. Sherman is currently 98 years old.
