Mark Cox is an American poet and professor of English at Stanford University. He was born in 1956 in East St. Louis, IL. He received his B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his M.F.A. from the University of Iowa. Cox is the author of several collections of poetry, including The Rusted City (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2002), The Glass House (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2006), and The Breakable Hours (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2011). He has also published essays and reviews in various journals and magazines, including The New Yorker, The New Republic, and The Paris Review. Cox has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, the Pushcart Prize, and the Whiting Writers Award. He has also been a finalist for the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. Cox currently lives in Palo Alto, California, with his wife and two children.
