Marshall Wright was an American diplomat who served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations from 1989 to 1993. He was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, and attended the University of Arkansas, where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science. He then attended the University of Arkansas School of Law, where he earned a law degree. Wright began his career in the United States Foreign Service in 1956, and served in various diplomatic posts in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He was appointed Ambassador to the United Nations in 1989 by President George H. W. Bush. During his tenure, he was a strong advocate for human rights and international cooperation. After leaving the United Nations, Wright served as a senior advisor to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees from 1994 to 1997. He also served as a senior advisor to the United Nations Development Program from 1997 to 2000. Wright died on April 8, 2013, at the age of 87.
