Lejeune began his career with Hannover 96 in 1998, making his debut in the Bundesliga in 2000. He went on to make over 200 appearances for the club, helping them to promotion to the Bundesliga in 2002 and to the UEFA Cup in 2006. Lejeune has also represented Germany at the U-21 level, making his debut in 2002. He was part of the squad that won the U-21 European Championship in 2004.
