Masanori Aoki is a Japanese figure skater who competed in the 1948 Winter Olympics. He was born on 6 September, 1927 in Tomakomai, Hokkaido, Japan. He is the first Japanese figure skater to compete in the Olympics. Aoki began skating at the age of seven and was coached by the legendary figure skating coach, Nobuo Sato. He won the Japanese National Championships in 1947 and 1948. He also competed in the World Championships in 1947 and 1948, placing fourth and fifth respectively. At the 1948 Winter Olympics, Aoki placed sixth in the men's singles event. He was the first Japanese figure skater to compete in the Olympics. Aoki retired from competitive skating in 1950 and became a coach. He coached many Japanese skaters, including Midori Ito, who won the gold medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics. Aoki was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2002. He is 96 years old.
