Meera Nanda is an Indian writer, academic, and public intellectual. She was born in 1954 in India. She is best known for her books, including Breaking the Spell of Dharma: Theorizing the Indian Secular (2006), The God Market: How Globalization is Making India More Hindu (2009), and Prophets Facing Backward: Postmodern Critiques of Science and Hindu Nationalism in India (2004). Nanda has a Ph.D. in the history and sociology of science from the University of Pennsylvania. She has taught at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore. She is currently a visiting professor at the Centre for Studies in Science Policy, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Nanda has written extensively on the politics of science, religion, and secularism in India. She has been a vocal critic of Hindu nationalism and the Indian government's attempts to promote Hinduism as a state religion. She has also written on the dangers of pseudoscience and the need for scientific literacy in India. Nanda is the recipient of numerous awards, including the American Academy of Religion's Martin E. Marty Award for the Public Understanding of Religion (2006) and the Indian National Science Academy's Homi Bhabha Award (2009).

She was a John Templeton Foundation Fellow in Religion and Science (2005–2007). In January 2009, she was a Fellow at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute for Advanced Study, in the Jawaharlal Nehru University for research in Science, Post-Modernism and Culture. She was also a visiting faculty of history and philosophy of science at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali from 2010 to 15 May 2017. She was a visiting faculty member of Humanities and Social Sciences, IISER Pune in 2019 and 2020.

Nanda has authored several works on religion, most notably Prophets Facing Backward: Postmodern Critiques of Science and Hindu Nationalism in India (2004), and her 2009 book The God Market which examined how India is experiencing a rising tide of popular Hinduism, including government financing of Hinduism despite the nation's secular characteristic. The book was reviewed by William Dalrymple in Outlook Magazine.
