Mell Lazarus is an American cartoonist best known for his comic strips Miss Peach and Momma. He was born on May 3, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan and graduated from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Lazarus began his career in the 1950s as a freelance cartoonist for magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post, Collier's, and Look. In 1957, he created his first comic strip, Miss Peach, which ran until 2002. In 1970, he created his second comic strip, Momma, which ran until 2018. Lazarus has won numerous awards for his work, including the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben Award in 1975 and the National Cartoonists Society's Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2003. As of 2021, Mell Lazarus's net worth is estimated to be $2 million.
