Merle Gilson was an American animator and art director who worked in the animation industry for over 40 years. He was best known for his work on the classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons. He began his career in the early 1930s, working as an in-betweener and assistant animator at the Walt Disney Studios. He then moved to Warner Bros. in 1936, where he worked on many of the classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons. He was the art director for the classic Bugs Bunny short, "Rabbit of Seville" (1950). He also worked on the classic Road Runner cartoons, as well as the classic Tom and Jerry cartoons. He retired from animation in the late 1970s. He passed away in 1984.
