Merry Shannon is an American novelist and short story writer. She was born in Sacramento, California, and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. She attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a degree in English Literature. Shannon is the author of two novels, The Year of the Rat (2005) and The Summer of the Fox (2008). She has also published numerous short stories in literary journals and anthologies. Her work has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and has been featured in The Best American Short Stories. Shannon currently lives in Oakland, California, with her husband and two children. She is a member of the San Francisco Writers' Grotto and the National Book Critics Circle.
