Michael Gough was an English actor who had a career spanning over six decades. He was best known for his roles in the Hammer Horror films, as well as his roles in the Batman films. He was born in Kuala Lumpur, British Malaya, on 23 November 1916.
Gough began his career in the theatre, appearing in a number of plays in the West End. He made his film debut in 1947, and went on to appear in over 100 films and television shows. He was a regular in the Hammer Horror films, appearing in such films as The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Dracula (1958), and The Brides of Dracula (1960). He also appeared in the Batman films, playing Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne's butler.
Gough was married twice, first to actress Renee Asherson, and then to actress Anneke Wills. He had two children, both of whom are actors. He died on 17 March 2011, at the age of 94.

Tony Award-winning English actor Michael Gough, best known for playing the butler Alfred Pennyworth in the first four Batman (1989, 1992, 1995 & 1997) movies and for playing the arch-criminal Dr.
He was considered for the roles of Dr. Hans Fallanda, Dr. Armstrong and Sir Percy Heseltine in Lifeforce (1985).
Appeared in two films nominated for Best Picture Oscar: The Dresser (1983) and Out of Africa (1985), the latter won the category.
He was nominated twice for Tony Awards, in 1979 for Best Featured Actor in a Play for Alan Ayckbourn's "Bedroom Farce" and in 1988 in the same category for Hugh Whitemore's "Breaking the Code", winning in 1979. Though he never achieved on the small screen and silver screen what he did in the theater, Gough's career in television and movies spanned sixty-plus years over eight decades.
