Michael Hashim is an American jazz saxophonist, composer, and educator. He is best known for his work with the Jazz Messengers, the Art Blakey Quintet, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. He has also performed with a variety of other jazz greats, including Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea. Hashim was born in Geneva, New York, and began playing the saxophone at the age of nine. He attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he studied with saxophonist Joe Lovano. After graduating in 1978, he moved to New York City and began performing with the Jazz Messengers. He has since performed with a variety of jazz greats, including Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea. Hashim has released several albums as a leader, including "The Art of the Saxophone" (1995), "The Journey" (1998), and "The Art of the Saxophone, Vol. 2" (2001). He has also composed music for film and television, including the score for the film "The Color of Money" (1986). Hashim is currently a professor of jazz saxophone at the University of North Texas.
