His father was a jazz musician and his mother was a singer. He was exposed to music from an early age and began playing guitar at the age of 12. In the early 1970s, Mickey Leigh formed the punk rock band The Rattlers with his brother Joey Ramone. The band released two albums before disbanding in 1977. In the late 1970s, Mickey Leigh and his brother Joey formed the punk rock band The Independents. The band released two albums before disbanding in 1981. In the 1980s, Mickey Leigh began producing and writing music for other artists. He has produced albums for artists such as The Ramones, The Replacements, and The Misfits. In the 1990s, Mickey Leigh formed the punk rock band Mickey Leigh and the Lazy Cowgirls. The band released two albums before disbanding in 1998. In the 2000s, Mickey Leigh formed the punk rock band Mickey Leigh and the Roadkill Orchestra. The band released two albums before disbanding in 2008.
