Miguel Frasconi is an American composer, improviser, and instrument builder. He was born on May 29, 1956 in the United States. He is best known for his work in electroacoustic music, computer music, and interactive performance. Frasconi studied composition at the University of California, San Diego, and received his MFA in Music Composition from Mills College in Oakland, California. He has composed works for chamber ensembles, orchestras, and solo instruments, as well as for interactive computer systems. He has also created interactive installations and performances, and has collaborated with dancers, filmmakers, and visual artists. Frasconi has received numerous awards and grants, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. He has also been a visiting professor at the University of California, San Diego, and the University of California, Santa Cruz. Frasconi currently lives in San Francisco, California, where he is a professor of music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He is also a member of the San Francisco Tape Music Center, and is a founding member of the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival.
