Mirzaagha Aliyev was an Azerbaijani actor and director. He was born in 1883 in Hövsan, Baku Governorate, Russian Empire (now Suraxani raion, Baku, Azerbaijan). He was one of the first professional actors in Azerbaijan. Aliyev began his career in the theater in 1904, when he joined the troupe of the Baku City Theater. He was a leading actor in the theater for many years, and in 1921 he became the director of the theater. He was also the founder of the first professional theater in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan State Theater. Aliyev was a prolific actor, appearing in over 50 plays and films. He was also a director, writing and directing several plays and films. He was a pioneer of Azerbaijani cinema, appearing in the first Azerbaijani feature film, "The Cloth Peddler" (1925). Aliyev was a highly respected actor and director in Azerbaijan. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1941 for his contributions to Azerbaijani theater and cinema. He died in Baku in 1945.
