Moshe David Tendler is a professor of Talmud and Jewish law at Yeshiva University in New York City. He is the son of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, one of the most influential rabbis of the 20th century. He is also the author of several books on Jewish law and ethics. Tendler was born in 1926 in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. He attended Yeshiva University, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1948 and his master's degree in 1950. He then went on to receive his doctorate in Talmud from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1954. Tendler has served as a professor of Talmud and Jewish law at Yeshiva University since 1954. He is also the rabbi of the Young Israel of Mosholu Parkway in the Bronx. Tendler has written several books on Jewish law and ethics, including The Responsa of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, The Principles of Jewish Law, and The Jewish Ethic. In 1951, Yeshiva University's Samuel Belkin encouraged Tendler to lead the Great Neck Synagogue for one year as an intern, thereby becoming the community's first rabbi. He later became the long-time rabbi of the Community Synagogue of Monsey, New York.
