Murray Ball is a New Zealand cartoonist, writer, and editor. He is best known for his long-running comic strip Footrot Flats, which he wrote and drew from 1976 to 1994. He has also written and edited for various magazines and newspapers, including the New Zealand Listener, the New Zealand Herald, and the New Zealand Woman's Weekly. Ball was born in Fielding, Manawatu, New Zealand, and attended Palmerston North Boys' High School. He began his career as a cartoonist in the late 1960s, working for the New Zealand Listener. He then moved to the New Zealand Herald, where he wrote and drew the comic strip Footrot Flats from 1976 to 1994. The strip was adapted into an animated feature film in 1986. In addition to his work as a cartoonist, Ball has written and edited for various magazines and newspapers, including the New Zealand Listener, the New Zealand Herald, and the New Zealand Woman's Weekly.
