Murtuz Alasgarov is a former Azerbaijani politician who served as the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan from 1992 to 1993. He was born on 20 September 1928 in Ganja, Azerbaijan SSR, USSR. He graduated from the Azerbaijan State University of Economics in 1951 and then worked in various positions in the Ministry of Finance of the Azerbaijan SSR. In 1992, he was appointed Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan and held the position until 1993. Alasgarov is a member of the New Azerbaijan Party and has served as a member of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan since 1995. He is also a member of the Central Committee of the New Azerbaijan Party. In addition, he is a member of the International Academy of Engineering and the International Academy of Informatization. Alasgarov is married and has two children. He is an avid reader and enjoys playing chess.
