After his service, he returned to Tennessee and began a career in politics. Ford was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 1967 and served until 1972. During his time in office, he was a strong advocate for education reform and was instrumental in the passage of the Tennessee Education Reform Act of 1971. Ford is married to his wife, Mary, and has two children. He currently resides in Del Rio, Tennessee. He is a member of the Church of Christ and is active in his local community.
