He is best known for his achievements in the marathon, having won the Istanbul Marathon in 1985 and the Istanbul Half Marathon in 1986. He also competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, where he finished in the top 20 in the men's marathon. Ayaz began his running career in the early 1980s, competing in local races in Turkey. He quickly rose to prominence, winning the Istanbul Marathon in 1985 and the Istanbul Half Marathon in 1986.
