Neculai Alexandru Ursu is a Romanian historian and professor emeritus at the University of Bucharest. He was born on 3 August 1926 in Boroșești, Iași County, Romania. He is a specialist in the history of the Romanian people and the history of the Romanian Orthodox Church. He graduated from the Faculty of History and Philosophy of the University of Bucharest in 1950 and obtained his doctorate in history in 1956. He was a professor at the University of Bucharest from 1956 to 1991. He was a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley in 1965 and at the University of Michigan in 1967. He has published numerous books and articles on the history of Romania and the Romanian Orthodox Church. He is a member of the Romanian Academy and the Romanian Academy of Sciences.
