Niceto Alcalá Zamora was a Spanish politician who served as the first Prime Minister of the Second Spanish Republic from 1931 to 1933. He was born on 6 July 1877 in Priego, Spain. He studied law at the University of Granada and later at the University of Madrid. Alcalá Zamora was a prominent figure in the Republican movement in Spain and was a leader of the Radical Republican Party. He was elected to the Spanish Parliament in 1910 and served as Minister of Justice in the provisional government of the Second Republic in 1931. He was elected President of the Republic in 1931 and served until 1933. Alcalá Zamora was a strong advocate of democracy and a staunch opponent of fascism. He was forced to resign in 1933 due to the increasing power of the military and the rise of Francisco Franco. He went into exile in France and later in Mexico. He died in Mexico City in 1949.
