Nicolas Kullmann

It was broadcast in twenty countries in 1990.

The film was selected as Channel 4's sole entry to the Grand Prix d'Italia in 1988. Since then he has worked with the BBC for their programming in conjunction with the Millennium of the Russian Orthodox Church and for Peter Montagnon of Antelope Films on a series called Global Conflicts which analysed the conflict between the superpowers (made for WNET and Channel 13).

In 1987 he set up Lara films and produced a 35mm feature length dramatisation of the life of Boris Pasternak (1990) based on his novel Doctor Zhivago featuring Robert Powell and Imogen Stubbs. It was made as a co-production with WDR of West Germany, LWT (Lord Melvyn Bragg) and Videofilm of the USSR.

Since 1986 he has moved into the role of associate producer with Antelope Films and from 1986-87 he worked on a major series for Turner Broadcasting Systems called Portrait of the World USSR. He produced A Russia of One's Own for Channel Four, a film set in New York, which follows the return of an émigré family to the USSR.

He worked as an assistant cameraman in all areas of film including many feature films: Turtle Diary (1985) with Glenda Jackson and Ben Kingsley, No Surrender by Alan Bleesdale, Absolute Beginners, Mona Lisa, Shanghai Surprise, Jewel of the Nile, Company of Wolves, The Bride.

Nicolas Kullmann was born in 1957 and graduated from Hull University in Russian Studies. He is a fluent Russian, French and English speaker and has extensive experience working on films having been introduced to the industry by Polish director Christopher Zanussi. He started his career working in the film archives of the BBC and then quickly moved into the Camera department by way of Samuelsons Panavision Film Service.
